A casino is a place where people can gamble by playing games of chance or skill. The largest concentration of casinos is in Nevada, which is home to some of the world’s most famous and opulent examples, such as the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Other famous casinos include the Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, the Casino Lisboa in Lisbon and the Casino Baden-Baden in Germany.

Given the large amounts of money handled in a casino, it is not surprising that cheating and theft are common problems. Casinos spend a great deal of time, effort and money on security measures. For example, windows and clocks are rarely visible from casino floors, allowing patrons to lose track of time and the amount of money they’ve spent. Some casinos even employ special chips with microcircuitry that monitor betting patterns to prevent tampering and ensure the fairness of games.
