Casino is a brilliantly constructed film. In the opening scene, Scorsese’s camera flies through the casino like a prowling Steadicam, taking in everything from tacky 1970s period decor to the money counting rooms where skimming off the top is an art form. And although data sgp the story of Ace Rothstein and Ginger McKenna’s relationship is central to the movie, it is also about Vegas and its transformation from a mob-run town into a family-friendly theme park where big corporations can run wild. Like Goodfellas and Boogie Nights before it, Casino is a classic period piece that imagines a hellscape and leaves us with a sense of nostalgia for the old days and skepticism about what might replace them. And no movie has ever done that better than this one.
