Poker is a popular game of chance, where the aim is to play the best hand possible. It’s played with a standard 52-card deck. The cards are ranked from Ace to Ace, with the highest card being the highest.
Each player is dealt seven cards in a single round. The dealer deals them face up, beginning with the player on the left. If a player does not want to be dealt the full amount, he can request a re-deal.
Cards are then shuffled by the dealer. After a round of betting, the remaining players will have the same stake.
At this point, all but one player will fold. This phase of the betting is known as a Showdown. The player with the highest hand will win the pot. However, this is not guaranteed.
If a tie occurs, the high card breaks the tie. A tie can also break if more than two players have the same hand. For example, if two people have a pair of kings, a third person has a pair of jacks, and a fourth has a pair of aces, the ace breaks the tie.
Another common scenario is a tie for the lowest hand. In this case, the winner is the hand with the highest unmatched fifth card.
Once the cards are dealt, all players must show their hands. Players may discard up to three cards. Alternatively, they can place a bet and hide their cards.
