Poker is a card game in which players bet their winnings against other players. Depending on the rules of the game and the situation, players can call (match) the bets of other players, raise them or concede (fold). The game is played with one or more cards and has several betting intervals. Bets are placed into a pot, which represents the money that is potentially available for winning the hand. In most cases players contribute to the pot voluntarily, for reasons involving probability, psychology, and strategy.
In the first round of betting a dealer deals three cards face up on the table, called the flop. Then the players get another chance to bet again. The highest ranking hands are Straight Flush, Four of a Kind and Three of a Kind. These are the strongest natural hands. A Straight Flush is five consecutive cards in the same suit, for example A-K-Q-J-T. A Four of a Kind is four cards of the same rank and a Three of a Kind is three distinct pairs.
In most games there are no wild cards, but some do include them. High cards are used to break ties between two high hands.
