Poker is a card game of chance, strategy and skill, where the objective is to form a high-ranking hand based on the cards you hold, in order to win the pot at the end of each betting round. It is one of the most popular casino games in the world, and is played in a variety of ways.

Cash games are typically played with a small group of players around a table, and players bet continuously until someone has all the chips or everyone folds. Once all players have their 2 hole cards, there is a round of betting (initiated by mandatory bets called blinds placed by the players to the left of the dealer). After this first round of betting, 5 community cards are dealt face up in stages, known as the flop, turn and river. There is another round of betting, this time involving all the players, and the highest ranking hand wins the pot.

One of the keys to success in poker is reading your opponents, and learning their tells. This includes things like their eye movements, idiosyncrasies and betting behavior. For example, if an opponent frequently calls and then suddenly makes a big raise, this is a good indicator that they are holding a very strong hand.
